   Gift giving is probably the most well known of all Christmas traditions in both Eastern and Western cultures. Moms and Dads have the opportunity to share with their children important truths about giving during their family’s Christmas celebration. While a good deal of focus will be placed upon purchasing safe, fun, and educational children’s toys, parents may also take this time to let children experience the joy of giving to others.

   I remember when I was growing up my aunt would always have those crackers (the ones that have the little gift inside them, along with a paper hat) at each place setting on the table. I used to love them. They had the pull things on either side of them and make a pop noise when pulled. Trying to think of the proper name for these.

   The more I think of it, the more I realize we were truly blessed as children. My parents were not rich in the financial sense. They were rich with love for all of their children. They reminded us of their love for us during the Christmas holidays.

    My daughter's tradition is to make Happy Birthday Jesus cupcakes. It helps teach her that Christmas is about the birth of our Savior. These cupcakes truly seem to bless people when they receive one. read more

    One of the traditions in The Baltimore area is to go to downtown Baltimore and see the Hampden Christmas Lights. On 34th Street in downtown Baltimore there is an entire street of row homes that make the most beautiful Christmas display I have ever seen. Each row house decorates.     I have not had much for Holiday traditions when I was a child. But now that I am married my wife has brought in her own traditions!
         Every year we attend the Miracle on 34th Holiday parade in Lubbock, TX. My being a bus driver we would also barrow a bus and drive around Lubbock and look at all the Christmas lights.
         Lubbock also has SantaLand, which we make a point to see every year! The kids get to see Santa Claus, and see the giant Christmas tree that the City od Lubbock puts up every year.
          On Christmas Eve my wifes family, and all the grandchildren sleep at the same house (which gets rather crowded) so we all can open Chriistmas gifts together! If it is possible the women of the family try to get the men the same pajamahs just to wear on Christmas morning.

    CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES
    
    Celebrating Christmas in the Philippine is probably the longest! When the calendar hits September, it's already Christmas here. It's quite normal to hear christmas carols on the radio, holiday sales etc.
    
    what we also do that is unique to Filipino Catholics is the observation of the "Dawm Masses" or as we locally call "Simbang Gabi".  The Holy Mass is celebrated from 16th of December and ends with the Midnight  Mass on December 24. This is usually very early in the morning like 4 a.m or early evenings. Most Filipino Catholics attend this as a tradition and as an advent activity.
    
    outside the churches, we would usually enjoy native hot chocolate and the puto bumbong ( a kind of rice cake) that is traditionally prepared in christmas only.
    
    The Simbang Gabi is like a sacrifice too because we have to get up early to attend mass.

    Each year the children buy a Christmas ornament at the local Santa Claus shop. Outside lights are set up at the house and the family tree decorated with tinsel. Over the course of two weeks, up to Christmas Eve, gifts are gradually placed under the tree. And, of course, the stockings are hung by the chimney with care.

    Christmas Tradition: Caroling in Small Towns and Big Cities
    As kids, we used to go caroling around our little town to raise some funds for some humanitarian project. Now that we live in the city and I have kids of my own, they also go caroling to raise funds for some humanitarian projects. The carols have not changed much but the way caroling is conducted differs in small towns and big cities.

    We started a few traditions when our children were very young.  On the evening that we decorate the tree together, we always have crackers and cheese and drink eggnog.  On Christmas Eve, before heading off to bed, we enjoy turning off all the lights except the tree lights and some candles, then singing "Silent Night" together.  And on Christmas morning, before opening any gifts, my husband reads aloud the Christmas story from Luke chapter 2.
