Africa wheelchair accessible holidays
74Access Africa
Planning a holiday can be stressful, but planning a holiday when you have a disability is always challenging to say the least. Having this in mind, a friend of mine -who enjoys travelling but has experienced many frustrations in doing so because he has a spinal injury- created Access Africa to offer wheelchair accessible holidays in comfort for the adventurous disabled traveller who wishes to experience South Africa.
Access Africa was established based on the personal experiences of a spinal injury traveller so they include facilities and services which benefit from first hand experience of the demands and frustrations when travelling with a disability abroad. Access Africa can tailor your holidays according to your personal needs. Equipment aids such as shower chairs and mobile hoists are provided on request at no extra charge because their policy is based on equal opportunities and they don't expect a disabled person to pay more because they require extra facilities.
Accommodation
Your will stay at the private and exclusive Ekuthuleni lodge which is situated 20 min from Durban International Airport on the scenic Kwazulu Natal south coast known as the " Garden Province " of South Africa.
The accommodation at Ekutheleni Lodge is set amidst indigenous gardens and has majestic ocean views. The chalets –serviced daily- blend into a luxurious setting of Acacias, Mango trees and local flowers and the rustic thatch roofs merge tastefully into the natural surroundings. Each chalet can accommodate 6 guests. For comfort the chalets benefit from custom made doorways to provide easy access to wheelchairs. All units have flush floor showers.

- Blindness: Being a visually impaired or blind person
Having started to lose my eye sight a few years ago the thought of blindness is something I have given plenty of thought to. My eyesight deteriorated considerably and then I was told I had developed cataracts. Thankfully, currently in the UK, the NHS waiting list for cataract surgery is short. After being referred, by my optician, in December 2009 I have already undergone cataract surgery on both eyes and it is only 4th May 2010, at time of writing. With my eyesight restored, almost to per - 2 years ago

It is wonderful to hear a disable also can travel a distance.Wonderful.
Very sensitive and informative-the kind of hub I love to see.
This is very useful information. The four months I sopent ni a wheelchairs with a crushed ankle showed me a lot about access and attitudes. Accessibility is vital. Thumbs up!
Great hub subject Princessa - enjoyed and as a hospitality professional myself I can say this will help less able bodied people who like all of us want to be offered quality travel options, thanks, Juliette.
Wonderful information for the disabled and travel.
Princessa, Access America sounds wonderful for those will with serious disabilities as they are so confined normally. This gives them the ability to regain a little bit normalcy with the ability to travel. I love it! Great article.
Wow! Cool topic for a hub!

This is great. While I am not in a wheelchair, I have mobility problems and it's good to know there are holiday services that offer alternatives.

Princessa - Your friend's Access America should do very well because unfortunately, there is a very large subset of people with disabilities. But many who are able to travel will surely benefit from his recommendations.
