Christian Dior

On 8 October 1946 Christian Dior founded his own fashion house, the rest is history. His first collection, presented in early 1947 gave birth to the phrase New Look. The New Look which emphasised a woman’s curvaceous silhouette revolutionized women's fashion and re-established Paris as the centre of the fashion world after World War II.

Still located in its original building, Dior’s house is a historic place in the fashion industry. Nowadays as well as haute couture, the house covers prêt-à-porter for men and women, perfumes and accessories. Here you will be able to appreciate the talent of Dior’s artistic director John Galliano.

Baby Dior

Paris is not only a symbol of fashion for men and women, since 2007 Dior widened his horizons opening two new boutiques specialising in children’s prêt-à-porter. You can find the two boutiques next to each other; number 26, avenue Montaigne caters for babies and number 28 caters for children aged 2 to 12. If you happen to stop by, do not forget the “must have” Jack Russell cuddly toy designed in honour of John Galliano’s dog!

Yves Saint Laurent

You couldn’t talk about Paris fashion without mentioning the legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent. The House which changed prêt a porter fashion for women is still active under the artistic direction of Stefano Pilati, who follows the tradition of elegance and luxury of Yves Saint Laurent.

Balenciaga

Spanish designer Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his Paris couture house on Avenue George V in August 1937 since then his designs were very sought after. Nowadays, although in the same premises, the house of Balenciaga is owned by the French multinational company PPR. Following tradition, in 2010, Balenciaga’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière goes back to the basic codes of elegance of the brand by adding a futuristic view of elegance to the house of Balenciaga.

ocbill: sales in France generally run only twice a year, once in Summer and once in winter (shortly after Xmas). Rules are very strict in here and the stores are only allowed two sales a year. However, in an effort to boost commerce, the goverment has relaxed some rules and you can find "discounts" in certain items. You need to look for "Soldes exceptionnels".

breathe2travel: moi aussie!

tracykarl99: I find fascinating that shopping in Paris is more than just shopping for the latest trends. Shopping in Paris can be a history lesson in itself, from fashion history to architectural history. Really a treat!

rebekahELLE: thanks for the visit. Of course you can link it. Thanks for the hub love :-*

Simone: You should do it. Even if your pockets are not that "deep" it is a treat to visit designer shops, you feel like a Princess when you enter their exclusive boutiques.

MPG: There's no hurry, we'll be here waiting for you, and if you make it after Xmas you can even take advantage of the Winter sales :-)

Wonderful hub. What is the best time to visit Eiffel Tower of Paris Princessa?

Princessa profile image

Princessa Hub Author 20 months ago

H P Roychoudhury: That is a difficult one... I think that there is not a "best time" everytime at the Eiffel tower is magic. During winter, near Christmas time, the illuminations are beautiful -my children think of it as a giant Xmas tree-

During the summer you have a wonderful view from the top as the sky is clear.

During spring and fall it is fresh enough to take the steps instead of the lifts and therefore have a completely new perspective of the tower.

As I said, everytime is special. Sometimes is the weather, other times the time of the year and of course other times that special person coming to visit the tower with you can make all the difference!

In September 2009 I took my first trip to Paris.

We stayed at The Hotel Plaza Athénée which was near a lot of designer stores. However since it was our first trip to Paris we focused on doing most of the tourist things. When I get back there I will surly keep your hub in mind as I shop for some designer bargains! :-)
