Foods that increase testosterone

Testosterone is a male hormone which plays a vital role in a man’s health and sexuality. Its production is dependent on zinc and vitamin B and although it is not found directly in the food we eat, certain foods can lead the body to produce more of it.

Testosterone is highly important for both men and women. However, men produce around 40 to 60 times more testosterone than women. Normally, testosterone levels in men are about 30% higher in the morning than at night time. This may explain why men are more interested in sex in the morning and is part of the reason for spontaneous morning erections.

Testosterone foods

Adding some of the following foods to your daily diet can increase your levels of testosterone in the long term. These foods are also known as natural libido enhancers or aphrodisiacs and can be used for both men and women alike.

Foods that increase testosterone and why they work.

Oysters

Oysters have a high Zinc content which raises the testosterone and sperm production.

Zinc is vital for many processes affecting the body; it helps to build new cells, boost the immune system, promotes growth, mental alertness, aids in proper brain function and plays an active role in the health of the male and female reproductive system giving you a testosterone boost.

Oysters are better eaten fresh and raw. They are also a good source of Magnesium and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Protein, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Iron, Copper, Manganese and Selenium.

Salmon

Bananas

Oily fish

Essential fats such as the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish and flaxseed as well as saturated fats are essential for normal testosterone production. Salmon and sardines as another good source of B vitamins B5, B6, B12, all of which are important in keeping good reproductive health. Salmon is also a great source of vitamin A and zinc.

Bananas

Bananas are good because they are rich in potassium and B vitamins like riboflavin which are necessary for testosterone production. Bananas also contain the enzyme bromelain that is thought to enhance the male libido.

Banana juice is a great way to introduce bananas into your daily diet. The juice is delicious with a creamy consistency.

Avocados

Avocados, nutritional facts
Avocados, nutritional facts

Avocados

Avocados contain vitamin B6, helpful in increasing male hormone production and they have high levels of folic acid which helps to metabolize proteins to keep nerves and skin healthy. Moreover, avocado also has potassium that assists in regulating the thyroid gland that may help in increasing male libido.

Other nutritional benefits found in avocados are, folic acid, B-vitamins and vitamin E. The avocado is virtually the only fruit that has monounsaturated fat.

Other sources of vitamin B6 are bananas, raspberries, watermelons, peppers and Brussels sprouts.

Asparagus

Asparagus are rich in vitamin E, which stimulates the production of testosterone. Other benefits found from Vitamin E consumption are the protection against prostate cancer and Alzheimer's disease

Another benefit of consuming foods rich in Vitamin E, is that it reduces the risk of developing bladder cancer which kills 12,500 Americans annually, being the fourth leading cancer killer among men, and four times more common in men than women. (source: the annual meeting of the American Association of Cancer Research, Orlando, FL, May 23, 2004.)

curious: almonds are good to increase testosterone because just one ounce of almonds have about 35 percent of the adviced daily intake for manganese and vitamin E as well as 20 percent for magnesium. They are also rich in phosphorus, vitamin B2, copper, potassium and calcium. All of them very important nutrients to help your body produce healthy levels of testosterone.

My doctor recommended the DR MAX POWERS HGH SPRAY and I didn't know how seriously to take these things - but I was hunting with a buddy and he told me how good the Dr. Max Powers HGH Spray is for libido because he used it a couple of time before.

I'm kind of a penny pincher, but this deal was too good to pass up! (I originally bought just 1 to try it out but now I buy the 3 pack to save money)

I have to say I had GREAT results! It's hard to admit the libido is not what it use to be, but last week, my wife told me her Studmuffin was back. Vitamin B?

* Vitamin B1 (thiamine)

* Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)

* Vitamin B3 (niacin or nicotinamide)

* Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)

* Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, or pyridoxamine)

* Vitamin B7 (biotin), also known as vitamin H

* Vitamin B9 (folic acid), also known as vitamin M

* Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanocobalamin in vitamin supplements)

Anthony: a change on diet to more fruits and vegs cannot hurt. If anything you might notice yourself more energetic :)

raj_kapil: thanks, keep enjoying...

MandevilleChiro: I am convinced that natural solutions are always healthier and give better long lasting results.

mirani: good to hear that you enjoyed it.

ocbill: oysters are really one of my "sins" I cannot resist them and I feel their effect almost inmediately!

Pamela99: yes, the worst that could happen is that you make him healthier... and the best is... well you'll see ;-)

Victim of poor Sex: a change in diet might even change your name :)

providence: i have eaten oyster many times and I have never been sick, and there is nothing more sensual than a raw oyster sliding down your lips, caressing your tongue...

Hi kelvinlls, don't forget to come back and let us know the results.

all_time_guy: men with low testosterone levels may notice changes in mood and emotions, a decrease in body mass and strength due to loss of muscle tissue, an increase in body fat as well as alterations in bone mineral density. Not to mention inadequate erections and poor sexual performance.

compu-smart: interesting experience. I am happy for you that now you know how to counteract the effects of that. Great to "see " you again.

This is just what the doctor ordered!!!

I saw a documentary a while back that did and experiment!

It took one hot red blooded male who was high in testosterone and another guy with very low testosterone levels, and made them do certain tasks,,

The guy with the high testosterone was made to do things like washing dishes, hoovering and playing silly child games, and the other guy with the lower testosterone was made to build, drink beer and do all those manly things we do..

After the experiment, the guy with the High testosterone levels was reduced and the guy with the low levels of testosterone was increased!!

Seeing as i do all my own cooking(Re-heating), washhng, hoovering etc, these food items you listed is right up my street!

Thnkas for sharing such valuable information!;)

Nice details, But less testosterone is not much problem instead hormonal levels imbalance causes low testosterone

and i prefer an alkaline diet to control hormonal imbalance.

I will shortly write an hub on Hormonal imbalance.

However some of the foods you mention are alkaline and hence will help in controlling hormonal imbalance.

i enjoy reading your hub

Ismail: thanks!

JPSO: thanks for the thumbs up, it is actually good that these foods are so tasty and easily available so it should be easy to add to a daily diet.

Brian: for these foods to have any effect, you really need to be constant. At least one of them a day could make a difference. I remember reading about an American Oyster farming town which "for some reason" had the highest pregnancy rates in America. I'll try to remember the name of the town or find that article.

Charia: good luck with it ;-)

Ethel: well, let's say you know now what to include in your new summer menu!

fishskinfreak2008: yes, figs are delicious.

I have eaten all your food suggestions at some time, although probably not regularly enough, except oysters. Never been able to eat much seafood which is a real shame because the rest of my family all love seafood.

Good hub.

Lady Guinevere: Thanks, glad you liked it.

Aida: and it tastes delicious!

emohealer: Yes, I believe that natural is best and of course more enjoyable.

Charia: I see this is already working for you :)

Actually, raw oysters are delicious, sometimes I travel for hours just to get a big dish of fresh oysters, I find them adictive! My husband didn't like them until he met me, now he has learnt to like them and even finds them quite tasty. It is just a matter of getting used to the taste and of course of having fresh good quality oysters.
