Films for little princesses

This is a list of five favourite little girls' films. First of all let me tell you that this is my first collaboration with my little princess aged 6. Together we have selected her favourite movies and I asked her a few questions about each movie to help her review them.

I asked for my daughter's help to review children's movies because I realize that as adults buying films for children, we are biased. Just like we buy our daughters the type of clothes that we would have liked to wear when we were their age or we buy them toys and films that we like or we would have liked to seen. So what better way of knowing what a little girl wants than asking for her opinion?

I must admit that I was amazed to find out that among five movies only three were Disney princess films. Mickey Mouse came as a surprise to me while I was less surprised to see Strawberry Shortcake in the list.

Here are my little princess' favourite movies and the reasons -explained by her - of why she likes them. As much as possible, I have tried not to edit her answers.

I like Cinderella because she is so beautiful. I want to look and sing like her. She is sweet and kind with the animals. The prince is very handsome and romantic. I like that there are no monsters or witches to scare me.

Cinderella says that if you have a dream and you wish it really hard it will became true but you must not talk about it to anyone, not even to the little birds and mice!

I like Beauty and the Beast because Belle (Beauty) is very beautiful and she is funny. The film is very funny with the teapot and candle singing songs. I would like to be Belle. I am not scared by the Beast because he is gentle and I know that he is a Prince. My cousin likes the film too.

My favourite person in the film is Aurora (the princess). Aurora is very nice with animals and the animals love her.

I like her fairies. I want to have my own fairies and I want to look beautiful like Aurora when I sleep. I like her singing and her Prince is very romantic and handsome.

I like everybody in Mickey's playhouse. I like that the stories are all different. I would like to be Daisy or Minnie. The stories make me laugh a lot. I like that there are lots and lots of Mickey films and cartoons. My little brother loves to watch Mickey Mouse with me because he can learn lots of things like the colours, the forms and the numbers.

I like all of the Strawberry shortcake films. I like that they talk about lots of cakes and fruits, the girls have funny names, they are all beautiful and have lots of fun. I like strawberry shortcake because strawberries are my favourite fruit, I love them.

I would like to be Crepe Suzette because she has lovely pink hair, she is funny and she has a very cute dog. I like the film when Strawberry meets her friends from around the world. They all speak different languages; it is like me with my friends and cousins. All my girlfriends at school like strawberry shortcake.
