Sensual 1950s glamour
By Princessa
Dita Von Teese
The Glamour look.
If you have a curvy body and you have passed your 30s, the 1950s pin-up girl style is what you should be after to highlight your curves and your personality. Remember that after all, in the early 1950s the mature elegant beauty was the ideal. High fashion models looked well bred, slightly aloof and rather older than their years.
The 50s style played on sexuality, sensuality and innocence all at the same time. Think Paris 1950s glamour. The ‘Vamp', nightmare of housewives, femme fatale. The woman who walks her ample hips equilibrated over stiletto high heels. That is the style you want to wear if you are curvaceous and proud of it.
If you still not get the picture, think Dita Von Teese or even Victoria Beckham. Ditta has the curves. Victoria has created them!
Easy to wear season after season. You will only need a few basic items like straight pencil skirts, bright red lipstick, retro dresses and stiletto heels. Not only this style highlights curves but worn wisely is very elegant. Also, it saves a lot of money in renewing your wardrobe at every season.

Simone de Beauvoir "The Second Sex".
A "Glam" Mom?
Yes, if you know how to play your fashion cards you can be a mother and still look glamorous. Again, opt for the 50s style and you are on your way to creating an impression.
The indispensable fashion item? Big dark sunglasses, to hide the fact that your "little darling" kept you awake most of the night and you had no time to put on full make up.
Fashion item number 2: This season's enormous handbags. Please, forget the "Peter Rabbit" bag at home and go out with your child in one of the new style handbags. Lots of materials and shapes to choose from. They are just ideal to carry baby bottles, nappies, wet wipes, an extra change of clothes, a couple of toys to keep your little one entertained, and of course, your mobile phone and agenda.
To complete the 'glam' look do not forget the high heels. I know, I am a mom too, and is not easy to run after toddlers on high heels, but then... they cannot run that fast anyway!
If you are breast feeding take advantage of your new found cleavage. Wear tops generously cut and everybody will be so busy looking at your cleavage that they will not notice the extra pounds that you still haven't lost around the tummy.
And of course, do not forget the indispensable item of the 50s "Vamps" a good corset. You can find absolutely gorgeous corsets that also have a good hold on the extra bits that you want to hide to smooth your silhouette. They give you good support and they can be very sexy.

Vintage Clothes
- Vintage style
Vintage has become a style for self assured women who wear clothes that make them feel well; clothes that suit their body shape rather than the latest high street trends. Vintage clothes are items that can be worn at any time and still look elegant. - Where to buy vintage clothing
Vintage is a style for fashion-nostalgic women. It represents a time period, a cultural expression of an era through fashion. Generally speaking, items from the early 1920's up to the mid 1970's classify as vintage. - Legendary Bikinis
Brigitte Bardot "..And God Created woman": Although Brigitte Bardot did not create the bikini, it was her who popularized it with her stunning curves back in 1956. In the erotic melodrama "And God created woman", Bardot played a sensuous actress...
Comments
It is very feminine Zsuzsy, I am happy you like the style. I think it is very elegant and not very difficult to achieve. I love getting all "dolled up" not only for others to see me but also for myself, looking at the mirror and liking what I see can make a whole difference to my day!
I love that phrase "dolled up";) ps.Im only hear for the pictures:P
Beautiful pictures.....
This is good work, princessa,

Pretty girls. It's a pity they're now oldies.
The 50's fashions are gorgeous! I have always been a retro baby......hahahaha. The styles are just so much more beautiful than todays it seems. They are also feminine without being frilly, perfect for us 'tomboys'. Love this hub.
happy you like the pictures Compu-smart and djtphn1, I love the style!
Come on Markuz they are not that old... Dita and Victoria are less than forty! The only 'oldie' is the model from 1957.
We agree on the 50s fashion being very feminine RF. Love vintage styles they are so classy...
Love the glam, very nice hub Princessa!
Isabella, I love the glam too, especially if it is so sensual. Not easy to be a "glam mom" I can assure you... but it is deligthful!
Great hub! I think I am going to go dig out a few of my mom's items...and doll myself up tonight! rawr! grrrr! Watch out hubby! Red lipstick? Who knew!
beautiful clothes and very sexy
The styles of the 50's to the very early 60's is definitely an eye catcher. Like Bettie Page, Jayne Mansfield, Brigitte Bardot, and etc., Dita Von Tees presents some of the extremely sexual and sensual apparel attributed to that era. Doris Day. Betty Grable, Katharine Hepburn, Rosemary Clooney, Lana Turner, and etc., were the movie stars that pesented the becoming fashions for the every day classy look of the business woman and a wife. People were more likely to dress in their Sunday-go-to-meetin' clothes when they appeared in public, because there was a social code of dress that was expected for general public activity. Obviously, the code has been compromised for many of our public venues, outside of formal dress functions.
they should be photos ov diana dors on here. she had the 50s glam factor!!
Histiletto : thanks for the comment, very informative.
naomi polley: How could I forget Diana Dors? I've just added a picture of her, perfectly glamorous.
Glamorous, NOT hard to achieve at all! Red lipsticks and high heels are still sold today. In fact this eras key features are so versatile that even 2 of them added to an outfit make people think -Ahhh....the 50s....with a sigh.
Don´t forget the hair....hot rollers that is.
I love vintage...I used to work at a consignment shop and got first dibs on all of the cool clothes!!! I love this hub!
We did a series of photographs a couple of years back when my partner was in her mid 40s. Originally the idea was just a bit of fun and hopefully to take some pictures I could use for paintings. The wine flowed, we had great fun and the result was a collection of retro style glamour photographs that we decided to put on my art website. Despite initial reservations that some of the picture were a bit risque we don't seem to have shocked anyone too much and most of her friends are extremely envious. She has the confidence to carry it off and I think she looks fantastic!

Looks quite feminine! Not for everyone, especially in this day and age. I can't imagine having to get all dolled up to drop off the kids at the sitter and continue on to shop for groceries or pump your own gas for that matter...
Loved the Hub
