If you do not want to spend too much money over your Christmas outfit, I would recommend taking your accessories (shoes, cardigans, scarves, etc) to the shop to try with your dress. You remind me to get my christmas dresses. I'm too slim for plus size.. I agree with you about the colour choosing. They should not scare to choose the bright colour dresses. Correct design and cutting could make them look very nice.
